PAINTING MOMENTS OF COLOR AND LIGHT

WHY I PAINT

My work is a study of the places we often overlook—the quiet corners of local architecture and the familiar stretches of landscape that define our daily surroundings. I am driven by a sincere desire to document the dignity in these spaces, focusing specifically on the structural relationship between light and shadow.

I divide my practice between watercolor and oil, selecting the medium that best serves the atmosphere of the subject. In my watercolors, I am obsessed with the transparency of shadow. I use the immediacy of the medium to capture the breathing quality of light as it interacts with buildings, seeking a clarity where the shaded areas remain luminous and full of air.

When a landscape demands a more traditional weight and a broader range of values, I turn to oil. This allows me to explore the depth and permanence of the land, building color and presence through a more deliberate, layered process. Whether through the fluid energy of water or the grounded stability of oil, my practice is an earnest attempt to slow down and honor the vibrancy of the world right outside our doors.
